The organization continued conducting field visits to individual farmers to monitor the adoption of sustainable farming practices, provide technical support, and assess the impact of previous training programmes. During the reporting period, the team visited the farm of Teacher Davy, one of the farmers who has embraced organic farming practices promoted by the organization. The visit revealed significant progress on the farm. Mwalimu David had successfully established approximately 600 papaya seedlings, 130 passion fruit plants, and several avocado trees. He also shared his future plans of expanding his orchard by planting 3,000 papaya trees and 100 Golden Hass avocado trees. In addition, the farm contained a wide variety of crops, including yams, cassava, sweet potatoes, pumpkins, and tomatoes, all grown using organic farming methods. The visit demonstrated the positive impact of the organization’s training, as the farmer has successfully adopted sustainable agricultural practices and is steadily expanding his farm as a model for other farmers in the community.
Advancing Environmental Conservation Efforts
The degradation of natural resources poses a serious threat to rural communities, particularly in arid and semi-arid regions. Over the past year, Wamama Poa has spearheaded several environmental conservation initiatives aimed at restoring and protecting the ecosystem.
Our team has facilitated tree-planting campaigns, resulting in the growth of thousands of indigenous trees across Igembe. We have also promoted sustainable land-use practices, such as agroforestry, to prevent soil erosion and enhance biodiversity. In collaboration with local schools, we launched environmental education programs to instill a culture of conservation among young people. By taking these proactive steps, we are ensuring a greener and more sustainable future for our communities.
